Tired of assigning “Castle on a Cloud” and “Tomorrow” to students?  Finding musical theatre rep for young children can be a tricky, and I created this post to provide some ideas.  Below is a list of around 100 musical theatre and film songs that were written for pre-pubescent, child actors (with a few exceptions).  I tried to mostly include solo selections, but there are a few small ensemble pieces as well that could easily be re-arranged to work as solos.  There are also many songs not included on this list that may be appropriate for children despite not being written for them.  However, the list would have been potentially endless if I included too many of those.  Scores for many of these songs can be found in the following songbooks: Kids’ Broadway Songbook, Broadway Songs For Kids, The Big Book of Children’s Movie Songs, and Kids’ Musical Theatre Anthology.

If you need assistance choosing appropriate repertoire for yourself or for your students, please check out my new repertoire consulting business, The Repertoire Guru.

** Some notable productions and/or film versions of these songs feature child actors/singers.
+ These songs primarily feature children in the chorus/ensemble, but they could be re-arranged to work as solos fairly easily.

  1. Great resource. By the way, Round-Shouldered Man from Secret Garden is sung by Colin, not Mary, so the song is more suited to a young male singer.

  2. Just wondering, you suggested “Almost Nearly Perfect” from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as one of the songs, I’m having trouble finding sheer music for it and was wondering would you know where I could find it?

  3. Hi, could you please help. My daughter got into Matilda audition
And wondering what songs would be most appropriate. She likes but fully dressed
    Without a smile?

  4. Kardashian and West made an end for that Style Honoree pretends to journey and slide on the floor in front of
honorees Betty Kardashian and Kanye West as
they attend the TIME 100 Gala in Newyork on April 21, 2015.

  5. When you have actually finished the test there is a summary on reading techniques from the
perspective of what each concern asked the student to do.
