Of the all posts I’ve written here at Musical Theatre Resources, the one that continues to receive the most views is an entry from two years ago titled “Broadway & Film Songs for Children”.  Clearly, it’s time to revisit this topic.  I know that finding musical theatre repertoire written specifically for children can be tricky, and many voice teachers/coaches may be tired of assigning “Castle on a Cloud” and “Tomorrow” to students by this point.  Fortunately, there are some GREAT contemporary alternatives out there.

Below, I have compiled a list of ten musical theatre songs written for child actors (ages 13 and under) from shows that have run on and Off-Broadway from the year 2000-present.  Five songs for girls and five songs for boys are included.  If you need more assistance choosing appropriate repertoire for yourself or for your students, please check out my new repertoire consulting business, The Repertoire Guru.
