Welcome to the fourth and penultimate entry in my Breakfast Club-inspired, teen musical theatre repertoire series. If you’re just tuning in, I have been compiling repertoire lists for teenage actors/characters based on the five high school social archetypes presented in John Hughes’ 1985 cult classic film, The Breakfast Club.  So far, I’ve posted song lists for nerdy teenage boy characters, preppy teenage girl characters, and sporty teenage boy characters.  Today’s list features songs for offbeat, eccentric teenage girl characters.

The female characters below march to the beat of their own drums and embrace the inner qualities that make them unique.  Unfortunately, their peers sometimes view them as outsiders or ‘weirdos’ as a result.  Some of these young women wear those titles with pride, while others long to be accepted by their more ‘normal’ classmates.  This is a common theme in high school films, television shows, and musicals.  Even in the real world, we all want to be accepted- but at what cost?  Do we sacrifice the personality traits that make us unique in order to ‘blend in’ with the crowd?  What is so great about being ‘normal’, anyway?  Without further ado, here are ten songs for offbeat teenage girl characters from contemporary musicals (2000-present).  Fair warning: there is some language in some of these songs.

P.S. If you need assistance choosing appropriate repertoire for yourself or for your students, please check out my new repertoire consulting business, The Repertoire Guru.
