The 2015-16 Broadway season has been one of the most stylistically diverse seasons in recent history. While the hip-hop juggernaut Hamilton has dominated the public’s attention, many other wonderfully unique new musicals have graced The Great White Way as well. These shows channel various music genres, including pop, rock, traditional musical theatre, hip-hop, bluegrass, gospel, R&B, and more. If you’re a performer and/or teacher, you may be wondering what these new musicals have to offer as far as solo audition material. Never fear– I have you covered! Below are the ‘best’ solo songs for men and women from 2016 Tony-nominated shows (any category). Obviously, this is a subjective list, but I hope it helps you find some great new audition repertoire! Note: I have not included selections from revivals below in order to keep the focus on new works.
P.S. If you need additional help selecting the perfect audition songs or building a stylistically diverse audition book, please check out my new repertoire consulting business, The Repertoire Guru.
